A senior leader in the House of Representatives has urged Senator Ronald Dela Rosa to be truthful about his involvement in the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
In a statement on Friday, Minority Leader and 4Ps Partylist Representative Marcelino Libanan emphasized the importance of “honesty and accountability” amid serious allegations of extrajudicial killings during the anti-drug campaign.
“Senator Dela Rosa, ang hinihingi natin dito ay simple lang — maging tapat tayo sa taumbayan at sa Diyos (what we’re asking for is quite simple – be honest with the people and with God),” Libanan stated. “The truth has a way of coming out, no matter how much we try to hide it. It is better to face it now with honesty.”
Libanan highlighted that truthfulness is a core value that should be upheld by everyone, especially public servants committed to serving with integrity.
He also praised the courage shown by Police Lt. Col. Jovie Espenido in testifying, despite the risks involved. “Ang katapangan ni Colonel Espenido ay isang halimbawa ng tunay na pagmamahal sa bayan at sa katotohanan,” Libanan noted, commending Espenido’s dedication to truth and public service.
