Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac expressed appreciation to Hong Kong Labor and Welfare Secretary Chris Y. H. Sun, JP, after the city announced a 2.2% adjustment to the Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW) for foreign domestic workers, raising it from HK$4,990 to HK$5,100 per month.
The revised rate surpasses the minimum income threshold of US$500 required for Filipino domestic workers under the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) 2025 advisory on enhanced reforms for the sector. Cacdac said the increase strengthens efforts to uplift the welfare of household service workers, while acknowledging the broader benefits of Hong Kong’s protective labor measures for more than 200,000 Filipinos employed there.
“We see Hong Kong as a promising opportunity where Filipino domestic workers can improve their skills and receive training. We have shown the world that our nation values human care,” Cacdac said.
During the exchanges, Sun commended the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for establishing efficient and comprehensive services through the OFW Global Center in Hong Kong. He noted that Filipinos represent around 10 percent of the territory’s workforce and reaffirmed Hong Kong’s commitment to close cooperation, ensuring fair treatment and continued support for overseas Filipino workers.
