Historic win: UAE jiu-jitsu team returns with half of all jiu-jitsu medals from Hangzhou

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team, backed by Mubadala Investment Company, made an illustrious return to the country after clinching 10 medals at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Their medal tally included 4 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze, with the team dominating the jiu-jitsu competitions and winning half of the total jiu-jitsu medals awarded at the event. Gold medals were taken home by Khaled Al Shehhi, Faisal Al Ketbi, Shamma Al Kalbani, and Asma Al Hosani. Silver was secured by Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Khalid Al Balushi, and Balqees Al Hashemi, while bronze was bagged by Mahdi Al Awlaki, Saeed Al Kubaisi, and Shamsa Al Ameri.

On their arrival at Dubai International Airport, a jubilant welcome awaited the team, symbolizing the nation’s pride and gratitude. Prominent figures from the sporting community, including board members from the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and representatives from the National Olympic Committee, graced the occasion.

His Excellency Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Deputy Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, lauded the achievement and thanked the nation’s leadership for their unwavering support for Jiu-Jitsu. “Starting today, our focus shifts to the next Asian Games in Japan in 2026, aiming to maintain our leadership in the sport,” Al Dhaheri remarked.

Mubarak Al Menhali commented on the team’s rigorous preparations, which began in 2019, and stressed the value of the experience gained by the young champions. Mohammed Hussein Al Marzouqi praised the team’s dedication, calling them role models for the nation.
