Historic first: Filipino performer appointed as Hong Kong Disneyland ambassador

Hong Kong Disneyland has made history by appointing its first Filipino ambassador, Gisele Abejero. Abejero, who has been a performer at the theme park for 17 years, will serve as an ambassador from 2024 to 2025.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News during the launch of the “World of Frozen” attraction, Abejero expressed her joy and pride in being the first ambassador from the Philippines. She shared her lifelong passion for Disney, stating, “I grew up with Disney, watching cartoons.” Her journey to Disneyland began with auditions in the Philippines, leading to a long and rewarding career at the park.

Abejero attributes her long tenure at Disneyland to the wonderful people she works with and her passion for dancing. “It’s like I’m not working here at all,” she said. “I love what I do. And I’m here in the happiest place on earth.”

Before her appointment as ambassador, Gisele showcased her talents in various Disneyland shows, including “Festival of the Lion King,” “The Golden Mickeys,” and “Mickey and the Wondrous Book.” She shares her new role with Hong Kong’s Beyan Tse, who explained that the ambassador role involves representing all employees and building a bridge between the community and the company.

Celebrating her new role, Gisele expressed her gratitude on Instagram, calling it one of the greatest birthday gifts and acknowledging the support of her family and friends.

The Disney Ambassador program, originating in 1965 with Walt Disney’s choice of a representative for the park’s 10th anniversary, has become a global tradition in Disney parks and resorts. Ambassadors represent their colleagues, engage in community service, and extend a warm welcome to guests from around the world.
