A dog named Kankan sacrificed its life to protect its owner, Emmanuel Onsay, from a venomous cobra in Goa, Camarines Sur. The tragic yet heroic incident unfolded in Onsay’s hut where he was asleep, unaware of the lurking danger.
The story came to light on Tuesday’s broadcast of GMA Regional TV Balitang Bicolandia, as reported by Jessica Calinog. Onsay awoke to find his beloved pet, Kankan, in a critical state. Despite frantic efforts to revive the dog and rush it to a veterinarian, Kankan succumbed to its injuries.
In a heartrending scene at the hut, a deceased cobra was discovered, believed to have been killed by Kankan during the protective encounter. Several chickens were also found dead, presumably victims of the cobra.
For Onsay, Kankan is not just a pet but a hero who granted him a second chance at life. Dr. Marynade Atole-Orgaya, a veterinarian, explained that dogs naturally possess a protective instinct towards their owners, whom they consider part of their “pack.”
