Dubai’s ambitious Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project is advancing steadily towards completion, with new photographs released on Wednesday illustrating significant progress on the construction site.
The photographs showcased the evolving water canal, which will soon channel water from the waterfall to a picturesque lake at the other end.
The project, which commenced construction in December 2022, is built on a Dh46-million budget granted by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
The initiative is designed to foster a “sustainable natural environment” utilizing the upper dam slope of the Hatta plant to generate a natural waterfall, according to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).
Demonstrating a symbiotic relationship with the environment, the waterfall system will circulate water in a closed loop, with the water being recycled and pumped back to the summit of the dam after reaching the end of the stream.
An innovative design inspired by hexagonal beehive structures pays tribute to Hatta’s renowned honey production.
The layout connects four vibrant oases with bridges that span across the water canal, forming a nexus of natural beauty and tranquility.
This concept not only promises to deliver a stunning aesthetic but also showcases the region’s dedication to sustainability and the natural world.
The project is also set to bring socio-economic benefits to the local community.
