Harry Roque’s asylum plea in the Netherlands denied, case now with Germany—Remulla

Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has been denied asylum in the Netherlands and is now believed to be in Germany, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed on Wednesday.

Roque, who is facing an arrest warrant for qualified human trafficking, has yet to return to the Philippines amid mounting legal troubles. The case stems from his alleged role in the operations of the Philippine offshore gaming operator (Pogo) Lucky South 99 in Porac, Pampanga — a facility earlier flagged by authorities as a scam hub.

According to Remulla, “As far as I know, he was not granted asylum by the Netherlands. So he is in Germany.” The justice secretary added that once Roque’s Philippine passport is canceled, he will be classified as an “undocumented alien,” allowing Interpol to apprehend him.

Roque, along with several others including Cassandra Ong, is charged under Republic Act No. 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act. Authorities allege that his involvement went beyond legal representation, noting that he served as a key figure for Whirlwind Corporation, which leased the property to the controversial Pogo.

While no clear timeline has been given for the cancellation of his passport, Remulla underscored that international cooperation may soon come into play. “If he is a fugitive from justice, especially if he loses his documentation, Interpol can chase him,” he warned.

Roque has not issued any public statement regarding his whereabouts or the charges filed against him.
