Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque and his wife, Mylah Reyes Roque, personally appeared at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi on November 29, 2024, amidst legal challenges they face back in the Philippines. According to a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the couple presented valid passports and demonstrated that they are staying in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) legally.
“The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi extended consular services to Mr. and Mrs. Roque, as required for documents executed abroad for use in the Philippines,” the DFA said in its official statement.
The Roques availed of notarial services during their visit, a process that, according to the DFA, does not require a prior appointment. The services were provided in compliance with consular requirements for documents intended for official use in the Philippines.
This development comes as the Roques face legal scrutiny in the Philippines over their alleged involvement in investigations linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). Mylah Roque, a former journalist, has been at the center of controversy after being cited for contempt by the House of Representatives’ Quad Committee for her failure to attend hearings related to POGO-linked crimes. Despite issuing a medical certificate explaining her departure to Singapore for health reasons, she has been accused of evading the inquiry.
The Bureau of Immigration confirmed that Mylah left the Philippines on September 3, 2024, before the House issued an arrest order against her. Meanwhile, Harry Roque has also faced legal challenges, including contempt citations for allegedly failing to cooperate with the committee’s investigation.
