Gym in China offers Porsche reward for losing 50kg in three months

A gym in Binzhou, Shandong province, has rolled out a controversial weight-loss challenge that promises a Porsche Panamera to anyone who sheds 50 kilograms within three months, according to a report by the South China Morning Post.

Participants are required to pay an entry fee of 10,000 yuan (around US$1,400), which covers meals, lodging, and what the gym describes as an “enclosed” fitness bootcamp setup. Coach Wang from the facility confirmed that the offer is genuine and that the challenge will take place under strict supervision. The Porsche being offered is not a new vehicle, but the gym owner’s used 2020 model.

At roughly half a kilogram per day, the target has raised alarms among health professionals. Dr. Zeng, a surgeon widely followed on Chinese social media platform Weibo, cautioned that forcing such rapid weight loss “leads to more harm than good,” warning of severe risks such as muscle deterioration and hormonal imbalance.

The campaign has drawn strong interest online, but experts stress that extreme methods can jeopardize long-term health, even in the pursuit of eye-catching rewards.
