Gunfire near a mosque in Wadi Al Kabir, Muscat, resulted in the deaths of one Indian national and four Pakistanis, the embassies of their respective countries confirmed on Tuesday. The Omani Foreign Ministry also verified these deaths.
The Indian Consulate in Muscat reported the death of one Indian national and one injury. The consulate expressed condolences and assured support to the affected families.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry confirmed the deaths of four citizens, referring to the incident as an “attack.” The ministry stated, “Our Embassy in Oman remains in contact with Omani authorities for the identification and repatriation of the mortal remains.” They also opened a helpline for community assistance and inquiries.
Ambassador Imran Ali, who visited local hospitals to check on the injured Pakistanis, advised citizens to avoid traveling to Wadi Al Kabir as the area remained cordoned off. He reassured that those injured are in stable condition. Emergency contact numbers were provided for those in need.
The US embassy in Muscat issued a security alert, urging vigilance and adherence to local authority directives.
Oman Police stated that all necessary security measures have been implemented and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident. The area remained cordoned off, restricting journalist access.
