A wedding in Cagayan de Oro took a bizarre turn on March 11 after the groom backed out moments before the ceremony, claiming he had been placed under a mystical love spell or “gayuma.” The unexpected twist left event organizers, guests, and even the police scrambling for answers.
A video posted on TikTok by the event host revealed the shocking turn of events, showing an empty venue as hours passed with no sign of the bride, groom, guests, or even the officiating judge. “First time in my life ay na-scam man me sa bride,” the host lamented, expressing frustration over the no-show.
When the couple finally appeared, a heated argument ensued, reportedly due to the groom claiming he had been hexed into marriage. Witnesses said he had been in a dazed state since the morning but suddenly snapped out of it after a friend’s wife doused him with salt—believed in Filipino folklore to break spells.
However, the drama did not end there. Reports surfaced that the bride had arranged the lavish wedding, accumulating services worth around ₱500,000 without making any payments. The wedding coordinators had trusted her promise of payment, allegedly believing her claims of having influential relatives from Davao.
“Even the food, make-up, everything—around 500k was charged to the coordinator or even more, but not one cent was given for a downpayment from the bride,” an event planner revealed.
As chaos unfolded, police were called to the scene. The couple was eventually taken into custody for further questioning, with online viewers split on whether the “gayuma” claim was real or simply an excuse to dodge wedding costs.
