Patrick Dempsey, celebrated for his portrayal of Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in ABC’s hit show “Grey’s Anatomy,” has been crowned PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2023.
The recognition, a first for the 57-year-old actor, has arrived almost two decades since he first captured hearts on television.
Dempsey shares with PEOPLE that receiving this honor at this stage in his life is both affirming and an avenue to bring attention to causes dear to him, such as the Dempsey Center—established in memory of his mother to aid those affected by cancer.
Apart from his newfound title, Dempsey is a devoted family man, married to makeup artist and entrepreneur Jillian, and a father to three children.
