Greenhills Shopping Center remains on US watchlist for piracy and counterfeiting

Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan City remains on the United States Trade Representatives’ (USTR) watchlist for alleged counterfeiting and piracy of legitimate US brands, according to a January 11, 2025, report from GMA News Online.

The shopping center was once again included in the USTR’s 2024 Review of Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy. Known for selling branded items at lower prices, Greenhills has been flagged by the USTR since 2022 for its involvement in counterfeit goods.

From January to December 2024, the National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR) seized an estimated $617.8 million worth of pirated products—significantly higher than the $417.4 million recorded in 2023.

In its report, the USTR noted ongoing coordination with the Philippine government, through the NCIPR, to address the issue. Efforts include transitioning Greenhills Shopping Center into a high-end mall with legitimate sellers.

“The government, through the National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights, has worked with right holders and shopping center management on implementing a transition program to transform Greenhills Shopping Center into a high-end mall with legitimate sellers,” the USTR said.

The management of Greenhills Shopping Center has not yet issued a statement regarding its continued inclusion in the USTR watchlist.
