Graduation ceremonies mark a significant milestone in students’ lives, symbolizing the opening of new opportunities. However, these ceremonies come with expectations of respect and decorum, which some students from Kapalong College of Technology recently challenged.
In a viral video circulating on Facebook and TikTok, Senior High School students were seen celebrating their graduation in an unconventional manner. After receiving their diplomas, several students danced on stage, with some performing TikTok routines and others twerking. This behavior has drawn widespread criticism from viewers, who questioned the respectfulness of the act and whether the school sanctioned it.
One TikTok user, a licensed professional teacher and public educator, addressed the controversy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining decorum during such events. She stated, “While we understand that a graduation ceremony is a significant milestone and once in a lifetime event for our students, it is also important to remember that a solemn event or a solemn ceremony requires and demands respect and decorum.” She further explained that while dancing as a form of celebration is not inherently wrong, the context and setting are crucial.
