A Filipino nurse working in the United Kingdom was physically and verbally assaulted by a couple who hurled racist slurs at her in front of her young children and parents.
Apple Moorhouse, a Huddersfield resident employed by the National Health Service, was spending the day with her family at Manor Heath Park in Halifax when the incident unfolded. She recounted to Daily Mail that the confrontation began after she asked the couple to control their dog, which had frightened her six-year-old daughter.
“I told the couple, ‘If you can’t control your dog, it should be on a lead,'” Moorhouse recalled. The man responded with a torrent of abuse, telling her to “shut up, f**k off, and go back to where you came from on the dinghy boat.”
Videos later posted by Moorhouse on Facebook, which have since drawn thousands of reactions, captured the couple mocking her family, making derogatory remarks about her work as a nurse, and even commanding their dog to “kill” her. At one point, the woman grabbed Moorhouse by the hair and shoved her to the ground, leaving her with a pulled rib and bruises that required emergency treatment.
The ordeal escalated further when water was repeatedly thrown at the Filipina and her family. In one clip, the woman threatened, “I’ll make you so bloody sick, you will wonder what the hell is going on,” before attempting to seize Moorhouse’s phone.
Despite the trauma, Moorhouse described the experience as a painful reminder that racism is far from over. “Maybe this happened for a reason—an eye-opener that racism still does exist, unfortunately,” she said.
West Yorkshire Police later confirmed the arrest of the couple, both in their 60s, on suspicion of racially aggravated assault. “Police have today made two arrests in relation to an incident in Manor Heath Park in Halifax on Thursday which was widely shared on social media,” the force said in a statement.
