Germany has launched a new residence permit, the “Chancenkarte” or “Opportunity Card,” allowing job seekers to stay in the country for up to twelve months to find employment. The German Embassy in Manila announced this initiative on its Facebook page, highlighting that the visa targets recognized skilled workers and educated job seekers who meet a points-based system.
Skilled workers need to provide proof of full recognition of their foreign qualifications in Germany. Job seekers with a university degree or a two-year training qualification need German language skills at A1 level or English skills at B2 level if their qualifications are only partially or not yet recognized.
The points system requires applicants to achieve six points, which can be earned through various criteria, including partial recognition of qualifications, language proficiency, professional experience, age, and previous stays in Germany.
The Opportunity Card allows part-time employment of up to 20 hours per week and trial employment for up to two working weeks. Once employed full-time, applicants can directly apply for a residence and work permit at the local foreigner’s authority in Germany.
Applicants must complete and submit the application form with necessary documents, including a valid passport, biometrical passport photos, a visa fee, diploma, CV, motivation letter, proof of finance, planned accommodation, and health insurance coverage.
For recognized skilled workers, additional documentation such as proof of degree equivalence is required. Applicants with partial or no recognition must provide corresponding notices or confirmations from German authorities and language certificates.
