German customs officers confiscated 90 kilograms of luxury chocolate bars at Hamburg Airport last month after a woman failed to declare the items, which were subject to significant import duties.
The chocolates, a popular trend on TikTok for their pistachio and crispy filo pastry filling, retail in Germany for around 25 euros each. The 33-year-old woman, whose name was withheld, carried 460 bars distributed across three suitcases. She claimed she had purchased the 200-gram bars for 4.60 euros each in Dubai.
Authorities valued the shipment at 2,100 euros, suspecting it was intended for commercial resale. The undeclared goods amounted to over 330 euros in evaded import duties, according to customs officials.
Customs raised health concerns, as the packaging lacked information on ingredients and allergens, potentially posing risks to consumers. The confiscated chocolates must now be re-exported or destroyed.
The woman was not detained but faces an investigation for possible tax evasion.
