GCash has temporarily restricted daily “send money” transactions until May 12, 2025, to curb vote buying activities during the election period.
In an ABS-CBN News report, the fintech company said this measure complies with the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) Resolution No. 10946, known as the “Kontra-Bigay” policy. Users who reach their daily transaction limit will encounter error notifications but can resume sending money the following day.
The temporary restrictions apply to both personal and business accounts, though GCash did not specify the exact transaction limits for security reasons. Normal transaction limits will resume on May 13, following the elections.
GCash assured users that it continues to actively monitor and report suspicious transactions to regulatory bodies.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) previously identified at least eight digital wallets as potential channels for election-related misuse.
