GCash expands partnership in Japan, enabling payments at over three million merchants

Filipino e-wallet leader GCash has expanded its reach in Japan, allowing users to make cashless payments at over three million merchants. This milestone comes through the enhanced collaboration between GCash’s international partner, Alipay+, and Japanese e-wallet PayPay.

Filipinos visiting Japan can now use GCash for a wide range of transactions, from dining at restaurants to booking accommodations and tours. Paul Albano, GCash International general manager, emphasized the convenience this brings, reducing the need for travelers to carry large amounts of cash.

“As Japan continues its shift toward cashless payment systems, GCash ensures that Filipinos can enjoy a seamless and secure payment experience,” Albano said. He added that GCash users can explore beyond major cities like Tokyo and Osaka with confidence in payment availability.

GCash initially became available in Japan in 2023 via Alipay+ and has since expanded its international operations to key countries, including the US, UK, Canada, UAE, and Singapore. To support global users, GCash offers competitive foreign exchange rates, zero service fees, and exclusive travel discounts.

The e-wallet is also developing a 30-day access feature for international visitors using local or foreign numbers to promote cashless payments in the Philippines, further extending its commitment to innovation and accessibility.
