A ceasefire in Gaza is scheduled to take effect on Sunday at 8:30 AM local time (6:30 AM GMT), according to an announcement made by Qatar’s foreign ministry on social media. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and await official instructions.
The agreement, approved by Israel’s cabinet after a six-hour deliberation, includes a ceasefire and the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip. The deal, brokered between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, aims to end a 15-month conflict in the region.
As part of the first phase of the agreement, Israel’s justice ministry confirmed the release of 737 prisoners and detainees. The decision faced opposition within the Israeli cabinet, with 24 ministers voting in favor and eight against.
