Anti-poverty czar Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon has called on Vice President Sara Duterte to step down instead of waiting for the outcome of her impeachment trial.
Gadon suggested that resigning now would allow Duterte to run in the 2028 elections. “I want her to run because I want to expose that the Dutertes no longer have the votes,” he said in an Inquirer.net report.
He also claimed that an alleged survey conducted by some lawmakers indicated Duterte had slim chances of winning the presidency in 2022, which he believes led her to settle for the vice presidency. Gadon argued that the former President Rodrigo Duterte’s victory in 2016 was largely due to the Marcos family’s backing.
The controversial lawyer further highlighted the allegations against Duterte, including supposed fund misuse in the Department of Education and the Office of the Vice President, as well as an alleged plot to harm President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on February 14, with 215 lawmakers voting in favor of her removal. If convicted in the Senate trial, she could be permanently barred from holding public office.
Despite the impeachment, Duterte has maintained that she is not considering resignation and has hinted at a potential 2028 election bid, though she has not specified which position she might pursue.
