In a shocking turn of events, a woman who had been pronounced dead was discovered alive hours later at a funeral home on Tuesday, June 4.
Constance Glantz, 74, from Nebraska, was initially declared dead at 9:44 a.m. at the Mulberry at Waverly nursing home. At the time, no investigation was deemed necessary regarding her death.
Her body was then transported to the Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home
in Lincoln. However, a funeral home employee discovered that Glantz was still breathing two hours after her arrival. The employee immediately called 911 for assistance.
CPR was administered, and Glantz was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead again around 4:00 p.m.
Lancaster County Sheriff Chief Deputy Ben Houchin addressed the unusual incident during a press conference, stating, “LSO has been to the nursing home, and we have started our investigation into what happened. At this point, we have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home, but the investigation is ongoing.”
The cause of Glantz’s death remains unspecified, with an autopsy currently underway. Authorities have notified Glantz’s family, but have not provided further details regarding her medical history or the duration of her hospice care.
“This is a very unusual case,” Houchin added. “I’ve been doing this 31 years, and nothing like this has ever gotten to this point before.”
