In a world constantly searching for leaders with both vision and compassion, Her Grace Duchess Dr. Nancy Atmospera-Walch stands out as a beacon of service. A proud Filipina, healthcare pioneer, and now a royal dignitary, she has built a legacy that spans continents—transforming lives through her deep commitment to public health, education, and sustainable global development.
Recently, during her visit to Dubai with fellow leaders of the Principality of Cappadocia, Duchess Dr. Nancy granted an exclusive interview to The Global Filipino Magazine, sharing heartfelt insights into her mission, roots, and the power of healing through service.
A second visit that reignited a vision
“This is actually our second time in the UAE,” the Duchess shared. “In 2021, during the height of COVID-19, my husband and I were struggling emotionally. Everything in Hawaii was shut down, and it really weighed on us.” It was then that their close friend, former Consul General Paul Raymond Cortes, suggested a change of scenery—inviting them to visit Dubai before his posting ended.
They accepted, arriving in November 2021, and what they saw left a lasting impression.
“We were blown away,” she said. “We’d seen old photos of Dubai—just sand—and to witness how far it had come was remarkable. The speed, the vision, the transformation… it was inspiring. My husband and I said to each other, ‘We need to come back. If anyone will understand our project in Belize, it’s the people here—because they’ve done the impossible.’”
That project, a sustainable eco-development in Belize, is part of their broader philanthropic mission. And in 2025, they did return—welcomed once again in Dubai, this time by Ethical Estate founders Daniel White and Princess Juan. “The hospitality has been truly royal,” she added. “From the moment we stepped off the plane, we’ve been treated with warmth, respect, and nonstop purpose. There hasn’t been a moment of slowing down.”
Health is the foundation of everything
As Secretary of State and Minister of Health and Wellness of the Principality of Cappadocia, Duchess Dr. Nancy brings her decades of medical expertise to the diplomatic sphere. “That role is very natural for me,” she explained. “Health and wellness is who I am. Everything I do connects back to it—whether I intend to or not. I always remind people: your health is your wealth.”
Her professional journey began with a nursing degree, and from there, she has never stopped pushing boundaries. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice, an MPH in Health Education, and several specialized certifications. But her philosophy remains grounded in lived experience.
“I practice what I teach,” she said. “When President Obama’s healthcare reforms came in, I noticed my own insurance premiums doubled. I asked why—and they said, ‘Because of your age.’ That moment stuck with me. I realized that even with age, what matters is your actual health. We have to build systems that reflect that.”
Back home in the Philippines, her roots in Vigan have remained central to her mission. “Giving back wasn’t something I started later in life. From my first paycheck, I’ve always sent support home. I never forgot where I came from—because everything I have started there.”
When asked how she balances her many global roles with family and personal life, she shared a deeply practical philosophy. “I follow a triangle: at the top is family. Then work. And third is community. You can’t live alone; you have to connect and contribute wherever you are. And you must nurture your network—it becomes your support system.”
Through The Belize Foundation, she and her husband are developing a legacy of impact that spans generations. “We’re building something sustainable—something that will still serve others long after we’re gone. I want future generations to live in a better world because of what we started.”
Leading with compassion, inspiring through action
Working with her husband, H.G. Duke Gerhart Wilhelm Walch, on multiple projects across Belize and the Philippines, the Duchess emphasized one powerful ingredient: communication. “It’s the key to everything. Every night, we talk. How was your day? What’s tomorrow’s plan? Whether you’re in a partnership, a family, or a business—miscommunication can undo everything. So we talk.”
As a trailblazing healthcare leader, she continues to inspire the next generation of nurses and professionals by modeling what it means to serve with purpose. “I always ask young nurses—why are you here? Is it just because someone told you to become a nurse? Or do you truly love it? If you do, never stop learning. Advance your profession. Belong to an organization that supports your growth. And always—always—practice compassionate care.”
For Duchess Dr. Nancy, leadership isn’t about power or position—it’s about presence. Her influence stretches across borders, but her message is simple: serve with love, lead with vision, and never forget your roots.
“Everything I do is driven by one belief,” she said. “You don’t wait for your community to give to you. You give to them first.”
