In a world where careers can often feel like a race against time and deadlines, finding one that offers meaning, growth, and fulfillment is rare. For 29-year-old Anna Lorayne del Mar, the journey to that kind of career started not with a leap—but with a run.
Now working as a Marketing Specialist at Mazrui Energy Services in Abu Dhabi, Anna describes her professional path as one shaped by grit, resilience, and purpose. “I am a dedicated marketing specialist, a passionate runner, and a singer who brings people together through music with purpose,” she shares.
Eight years ago, at just 21, Anna left the Philippines to pursue a new chapter in the United Arab Emirates. Her first role abroad was in sales for a local Emirati brand—a stark contrast from her initial career as a Department Manager at Robinsons Galleria Cebu, where she had already begun to hone her skills in marketing, sales, and operations. “That experience shaped my professional journey, giving me a deep understanding of global markets and cross-cultural communication,” she says of her early days in the UAE.

From those formative years, Anna has since carved a space for herself in the competitive Oil & Gas industry. Her work today includes developing marketing strategies, managing corporate communications, and executing branding initiatives that elevate her company’s presence. “I also play a key role in organizing major events like ADIPEC and other strategic initiatives that strengthen partnerships and market positioning,” she explains to TGFM.
But what makes Anna’s journey even more inspiring is how she’s bridged her career with her passions. Running and music are not just hobbies—they’re part of her purpose. After completing her first half marathon last year, she recently achieved a major milestone: her first full marathon at the Dubai Marathon. “Running has instilled in me discipline and resilience—values that I carry into both my personal and professional life,” she says.
Her love for music is equally powerful. In Abu Dhabi, Anna has organized “Gig for a Cause” events, where music becomes a tool for social impact. “I believe in the power of music to connect people and support meaningful causes,” she says. “Combining creativity with purpose brings me immense fulfillment.”
A leap of faith that changed everything
For Anna, working abroad was a conscious decision born out of ambition and faith in something greater. “I decided to work abroad because I believe there is more for me beyond the opportunities available in my home country,” she says. “The international job market has provided me with greater challenges and learning opportunities, enabling me to advance in my field and broaden my professional expertise.”
Financial stability also played a key role in her decision. “Compensation packages in certain countries tend to be more competitive… This financial stability has allowed me to improve my quality of life and work towards my long-term goals,” she adds.

But beyond career and salary, Anna was equally driven by a thirst for growth. “Adapting to a different culture, language, and way of life has been a transformative experience, making me more adaptable, open-minded, and resilient,” she says. “These experiences have shaped me into a more well-rounded individual.”
Indeed, living in the UAE has been full of unexpected opportunities. “The country’s thriving economy and its status as a global hub for business and innovation have provided an environment where I can constantly learn and push my boundaries,” she shares.
From trials to triumphs
Settling into a new life overseas didn’t come easy. “Moving to the UAE required me to navigate unfamiliar social norms, language barriers, and a different work culture,” she recalls. “At first, it was difficult to feel fully integrated and establish meaningful connections.”
But Anna met those challenges with her signature mix of patience and persistence. “I focused on learning the language, attending social events, and engaging with both locals and fellow expats, which helped me build a strong support network,” she shares.
She credits her family, church community, and colleagues for helping her stay grounded. “I also looked up to senior colleagues who had overcome similar challenges and found success,” she adds. “Having mentors in all areas of my life has been invaluable in guiding me through the process.”
While her portfolio includes major industry events and high-level branding work, what Anna values most is the heart behind her profession. “I appreciate my job because it lets me use my skills, creativity, and strategy to make a real impact,” she says.
For Anna, marketing is about much more than just selling—it’s about storytelling and connection. “Marketing isn’t just about promotion—it’s about crafting the right message, understanding trends, and engaging the right audience,” she emphasizes.
What excites her most is the ability to drive results and be part of something larger. “A successful campaign, a well-executed event, or positive feedback from stakeholders makes my work fulfilling,” she shares. “Ultimately, my job is rewarding because it allows me to innovate, build strong relationships, and help position my company as an industry leader.”
A vision beyond borders
Anna is already thinking ahead—towards a future filled with even more impact. After her overseas chapter, she hopes to plant roots in Canada or the Philippines, where she can continue her advocacy through music, marketing, and fitness. “I want to bring together artists, marketers, and runners to collaborate on projects that support charitable causes and build empowerment and connection,” she says.
Her vision is bold but grounded. She plans to organize concerts, fun runs, and awareness campaigns that promote health, wellness, and sustainability. “I’ve already started this in Abu Dhabi through music,” she says with pride.
Her long-term goal is to build inclusive communities that uplift and unite people through shared purpose. “I hope to support sustainability, health, and social responsibility causes, aiming to create a more inclusive community that uses music, marketing, and fitness to make a lasting impact,” she adds.
Words of wisdom for fellow OFWs
To fellow Filipinos living and working abroad, Anna offers heartfelt advice drawn from her own journey: “Stay connected—keep in touch with family, friends, and your community. Being around fellow Filipinos can make a big difference.”
She also emphasizes the importance of financial literacy. “Save, budget, and plan your finances wisely. This will give you stability and peace of mind,” she advises.
When it comes to relationships and work, she encourages kababayans to choose wisely and stay grounded. “Choose the right people to surround yourself with. Respect and shared values are important in any friendship. Be patient and adaptable—finding the right job takes time. Stay open to opportunities, even if you have to start small.”
Her final message is a rallying cry to all OFWs pursuing their dreams: “Most importantly, remember why you’re here—to build a better future. Every challenge you face makes you stronger. Keep going!”
Now eight years into her overseas journey, Anna continues to evolve—not just as a professional but as a global citizen who uses her talents for a greater cause.
“Living and working abroad has pushed me out of my comfort zone, taught me resilience, and given me opportunities I never imagined,” she says. “The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has helped me grow both personally and professionally.”
