From Aklan to the world: Filipino dancers win global title in Dubai

Choreo’N Cream, a powerhouse dance crew from Aklan, Philippines, has made the country proud after taking home the championship title in the Open Division of the World Supremacy Battlegrounds (WSB) Dubai 2025, held on July 12–13.

The group topped the competition with a score of 88.00, edging out fellow Filipino contenders RockwellPH, who earned second place with 87.20 points. Third place went to The Brave Gorkha’s of Nepal with a score of 80.73, followed closely by another Nepali team, The Creators, at 79.33.

Choreo’N Cream’s win was more than just a victory in dance—it was a moment of pride, persistence, and faith for the entire Aklanon and Filipino community.

“Representing our municipality in Aklan in local competitions is something we are always proud of, so we make sure to put in a lot of effort when the chance arises,” shared team leaders Jethro, John Paul, and Jaylord in a pre-event interview. “We felt honored to represent the Philippines and tell the tale of our struggles, passion, and dedication through dance on a global stage.”

Overcoming the odds

Their road to Dubai wasn’t easy. Financial challenges nearly kept them from reaching the world stage—until the Aklanon community both in the Philippines and the UAE stepped in.

“Ate Kristine Sumugat helped us connect with people we didn’t even know personally,” the group explained. “Through her, Sir Benj Dela Rosa, Direk Markus Engr, and the Aklanon sa UAE community helped with our trip, accommodations, food sponsorship, and even gave us pocket money.”

Local government units and personal supporters also rallied behind them. “LGU Kalibo, the province of Aklan, family and friends—everyone gave what they could to make this dream happen.”

Dancing with purpose

Unlike groups focused solely on competition or fame, Choreo’N Cream sees dance as a powerful form of storytelling.

“We always believed that dancing is an art with a broad message. We dance because we love it—not to impress, but to express,” they shared. “We want people to feel every beat of the music and understand that our message is rooted in love, struggle, and triumph.”

A message to dreamers

Composed of members aged 21 to 31, the group includes: John Michael Reyes, Billy Jay Solis, Kenchie Zea Fernandez, Kiert Whizly Tabanera, Jethro Rioja, Prince John Lenard Juanico, Nechol Andrade, Jan David Rein, John Paul Elizalde, and Jaylord Villanueva.

They hope their journey inspires other young dancers from the provinces. “Just keep moving and remember that dancing is an art that you ought to love if you have the passion and discipline for it,” they advised. “And always take care of your mental and physical health—this is your weapon in achieving your dream of dancing on a global stage.”
