Born in Mate Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay, Keneth Laurie has come a long way from his humble beginnings to achieving success in the entertainment industry. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology at Andres Bonifacio College but found his passion elsewhere. Laurie’s journey to becoming an award-winning actor and executive producer is one of hard work, perseverance, and a deep love for the craft.
In his early days, Keneth had no idea that his aspirations would lead him into acting, directing, and producing. “Nung college pa lang ako, gusto ko na talagang pasukin ang showbiz,” Keneth shared. However, he admits that his initial dream was simply to become a model. He drew inspiration from his idol Zayn Malik, not just for his music, but for his sense of style. “Pinangarap ko na balang araw maging modelo. Masaya na ako nun,” he adds.
Despite his dreams of modeling, Keneth’s career took a turn when opportunities in acting came his way. His breakthrough came when he starred in independent films, where he won notable accolades such as Best Actor at the Cinemandirigma Interschool Film Festival for his role in PILAT and Best Actor at the Qualcinema Film Festival for KATIBAYAN. These awards further cemented his place in the entertainment industry.
As of today, Keneth Laurie wears many hats. He is an Executive and Segment Producer at BLP TV in the Philippines and is actively involved in various events as an Event Director, Stylist, and Creative Director. Despite his success, he remains grounded. “Hindi ko lubos akalain na magiging director ako. Ang alam ko lang noon, gusto ko lang magmodelo,” Keneth humbly recalls. But his passion for the industry grew, and his skills expanded to directing and producing short films. He is committed to helping others realize their dreams as well.
“I do short films not just because I enjoy them, but because I want to help others who have dreams like mine,” Keneth said. His generosity and desire to uplift others set him apart in the competitive world of showbiz. This passion for helping others can be seen in his involvement in various community-driven projects, especially in uplifting fellow artists and creators.
Keneth’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. In the entertainment industry, he faced critics and detractors who tried to pull him down. Yet, he kept his focus. “Sa showbiz, may mga taong humihila sa’yo pababa, pero kailangan malakas ang loob mo,” he advises those entering the industry. His message is clear: confidence in one’s abilities, patience, and a strong work ethic are essential. “Lagi mong gawin ang tama, at huwag mag-attitude, lalo na kung baguhan ka pa lang,” he advises.
Reflecting on his beginnings, Keneth shares valuable lessons from his experiences. Before becoming a producer, he worked his way up in production, starting as a Production Assistant (PA). “Gusto ko talaga TV at film productions kaya nagsimula ako bilang PA,” Keneth shares. His responsibilities included everything from running errands to making coffee for the directors, experiences he considers formative in shaping his work ethic and dedication. “Mahalaga sa akin ‘yung mga natutunan ko bilang PA. Dito ako nahubog,” he reflects.
Now, as a director, Keneth fosters a positive working environment. “Gusto ko kalma lang ang trabaho, walang na-pe-pressure, para maganda ang environment ng workplace,” he says. This approach to leadership ensures that his team remains productive and motivated, resulting in a more harmonious working environment.
Keneth also highlights the importance of faith in his journey. “Dapat laging ilagay sa ating Amang Tagapagligtas ang ating mga ginagawa,” he shares. For him, seeking guidance from a higher power has been crucial in ensuring success and staying on the right path.
