Free swim lessons return to Dubai in exchange for beach clean-up efforts

A Filipino-led initiative that blends life-saving skills with environmental action is set to return for its third year, inviting UAE residents to join a movement that promotes both water safety and coastal care.

Bimbo Calitis, a former lifeguard and founder of Amphibious Swim School, is once again opening up free swimming lessons to Filipinos and other expats in Dubai—on one simple condition: help clean up the beach.

From June to September 2025, volunteers can head to Kite Beach, Jumeirah 3, every weekend from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM. The first part of the session focuses on swimming instruction, followed by a short but impactful beach clean-up.

“This advocacy has been growing steadily over the past three years, and we’re grateful to our kababayans and friends from other nationalities who’ve supported it,” Calitis shared with TGFM.

The initiative is open to both children and adults, and no prior swimming experience is needed. Participants are required to bring their own goggles, swimwear, sunblock, and water. All other swim gear—including kickboards, floats, and safety rings—will be provided.

In the past year alone, over 100 individuals have taken part in the program, with some eventually becoming assistant instructors themselves.

To join, interested participants can send a WhatsApp message to 050 976 4948. The exact pin location for the sessions will be shared upon registration.
