Free feeder bus rides for Dubai Metro users within same zone, RTA confirms

Passengers using Dubai Metro can now enjoy free rides on feeder buses traveling within the same geographic zone, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced.

According to RTA, commuters who begin their journey on a feeder bus will be charged a fare only once—at the start of the trip. If they continue their journey by metro or return using the same feeder bus in the opposite direction without crossing into another zone, no additional fare will be deducted.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, explained that Dubai Metro is divided into seven zones, and fares are calculated based on how many zones a passenger travels through. “Trips on feeder buses within the same zone are free when using the metro,” he said, emphasizing that this applies to both directions of travel as long as passengers remain in their original zone.

The RTA identified the seven zones as follows:

Zone 1: Jebel Ali Industrial, Jebel Ali Free Zone, Techno Park, Dubai Investment Park, Dubai World Central

Zone 2: Umm Suqeim, Al Barsha, Emirates Hills, part of Jebel Ali Industrial

Zone 3: Jumeirah Village, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Jumeirah South Village, Al Barsha South, Al Merkadh

Zone 4: Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif, Al Khawaneej, Al Muhaisnah

Zone 5: Gold Souk, Al Mamzar, Al Qusais, Al Rashidiya

Zone 6: Al Ghubaiba, Al Satwa, Al Karama, Al Jafiliya

Zone 7: Al Awir, Warsan, Lehbab, Dubai Land

Shakri said the initiative underscores the RTA’s commitment to creating a seamless and sustainable public transport system that enhances commuter convenience and supports Dubai’s vision of becoming one of the world’s most connected cities.
