The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is stepping up efforts to better serve overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families through new programs that provide practical, on-the-ground support.
In a recent Palace press briefing, OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio unveiled several projects designed to address the everyday challenges faced by OFWs, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to prioritize the welfare of Filipino workers abroad.
Among the new initiatives is the Migrant’s Brew Coffee Shop, now available in all 17 OWWA regional offices, where OFWs can enjoy free coffee while discussing their concerns with OWWA staff.
Another notable program is the AYOS Truck (Assistance to OFW Families in Situations), a mobile response vehicle equipped with internet access, a kitchen, a shower, and a generator. It’s deployed in disaster-affected areas to help OFW families reconnect with their loved ones abroad.
Meanwhile, the Seafarer’s Hub has been introduced as a safe space for Filipino seafarers processing documents. The facility offers round-the-clock access to food, legal advice, and protection against illegal recruitment.
OWWA also continues to operate the 1348 Hotline, which handles requests for help and complaints from OFWs and their relatives.
Ignacio acknowledged that OFW issues are ongoing but emphasized that the government now acts faster and more decisively. “We know these problems won’t vanish overnight, but what matters is that the government listens and responds swiftly,” he said.
