Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), a Sharjah-based organization, will be offering free breast cancer screenings at Dubai’s Global Village on Saturday, October 28th. The screenings will take place in a mobile clinic and a mini-van clinic, both positioned behind the India Pavilion.
In addition to the screenings, an event highlight will be the all-pink 100km ride of the Los Habibi cycling group. Comprising 50 dedicated cyclists, the group will journey from Al Qudra to Global Village to bolster breast cancer awareness.
In a statement, FOCP emphasized that such activities are pivotal in the “ongoing battle against breast cancer,” emphasizing the importance of early detection and public consciousness-raising.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed every October, sees numerous activities throughout the UAE to spotlight this widespread disease. As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), breast cancer remains the most diagnosed cancer type worldwide, constituting about 12% of all new yearly cancer diagnoses.
Medical experts reiterate that while the primary symptom of breast cancer is often a new lump or mass, many breast lumps aren’t malignant. Thus, consulting a physician for a comprehensive review is crucial to determine the need for any further assessment. Early detection remains pivotal in optimizing treatment options for breast cancer.
