France Castro slams Meta for suspending her Facebook account over alleged impersonation

House Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro has denounced Meta’s decision to suspend her Facebook account for 180 days over alleged impersonation, calling it baseless and oppressive.

During a House hearing on online disinformation, Castro expressed frustration over the suspension of her account, “Teacher France Castro,” insisting that she had not impersonated anyone and that her posts reflected her daily experiences.

Castro’s office has sought an explanation from Meta but has yet to receive a response. Despite being invited to the hearing, Meta did not send representatives.

“They should explain why my account was suspended for six months. There was no due process. They didn’t even tell me why it was taken down,” Castro said.

House panel co-chair Antipolo Representative Romeo Acop assured Castro that they would again reach out to Meta for clarification.

The ACT Teachers Party-list also condemned the suspension, calling it a “blatant act of repression” and demanding the immediate reinstatement of Castro’s page. The group linked the incident to Castro’s role in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, alleging that her page had been targeted by trolls and false reports aimed at silencing progressive voices.

The party-list urged the public to remain vigilant against such tactics and to support those advocating for justice and democracy.
