A fourth impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte could be filed in the House of Representatives as early as next Monday, according to House Secretary General Reginald Velasco. He revealed that the information came from a member of the House majority, who asked him to prepare for the potential filing.
“Some members are still requesting an extension as they are considering filing another complaint… a fourth complaint,” Velasco shared. “They’ve asked us to wait, but no details were given on how many will endorse it.”
The previous three impeachment complaints against Duterte cited allegations of graft, corruption, and misuse of confidential funds. Velasco added that his office’s legal team is still verifying the complaints before referring them to House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro, an endorser of the second impeachment complaint, called for unity among complainants to ensure progress. “We’re planning a meeting this January to push the House leadership and the Marcos administration to act on these complaints,” Castro said. She also hinted at organizing a large mobilization to pressure decision-makers.
Lawyer Amando Virgil Ligutan, representing complainants in the third impeachment complaint, expressed openness to collaborating with others. “We may not know each other personally, but we share a common goal,” he said.
As of now, none of the impeachment complaints have secured the required endorsements from at least one-third of House members. Castro remains optimistic, stating, “It’s not that they’re cold to the idea; perhaps they’re still studying the situation.”
Efforts to move forward with the complaints come amid concerns about political influence and resistance from certain groups. Castro urged her colleagues to act independently, emphasizing the importance of holding public officials accountable.
