Four-year-old girl found dead; mother admits to strangling her in Cagayan de Oro

Authorities have arrested a 25-year-old mother for allegedly killing her four-year-old daughter by strangulation in Cagayan de Oro City.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, the child was rushed to the hospital by relatives but was declared dead on arrival. Initially, the mother claimed her daughter had slipped in the bathroom. However, doctors grew suspicious as the child’s injuries did not align with a typical fall.

The Puerto Police Station’s Women and Children Protection Desk later confirmed that the mother admitted to strangling her daughter.

A relative of the victim revealed that the suspect’s one-year-old child might have also been in danger had the incident not been discovered in time.

In the same report, the mother said she acted out of frustration after days of not being able to contact her husband in Cebu City. She expressed regret, saying she lost control in the moment.

She now faces charges of parricide and violation of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act (RA 7610).
