Four Filipino travelers in Thailand found themselves injured after engaging in a brawl with Thai ladyboys, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday, March 6.
DFA Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega revealed that three of the Filipino victims sustained scratches and bruises following an altercation with Thai locals. The incident occurred at a hotel where they were staying, with one bystander also becoming a target of the confrontation.
The fourth Filipino, who was not acquainted with the others, suffered severe injuries to his face and head after being mobbed by the Thai ladyboys.
As investigations continue, no cases have been filed against the Filipino travelers. The DFA is currently reviewing statements from both parties, with closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage being analyzed to verify the sequence of events.
Reports from local Thai media suggest that the brawl was sparked by alleged taunting from transgender Filipinos toward Thai locals. The situation escalated the next day, leading to the confrontation outside the travelers’ hotel in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 11 area.
The DFA confirmed that the Filipino travelers expressed a desire to depart Thailand promptly. Three of them are scheduled to travel to Mumbai, while the fourth intends to head to Japan. Assistance has been requested to secure medical certificates, with further actions to be taken accordingly.
