Dubai Police reported four fatalities from accidents involving e-scooters and bicycles within the first half of 2024, along with 25 injuries. The police have also enforced strict measures due to over 7,800 traffic violations recorded in the same period, leading to the confiscation of 4,474 e-scooters and bicycles.
Major-General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, assistant commandant for Operations Affairs, emphasized in a Khaleej Times report the dangers associated with e-scooters and bicycles, particularly when operated in unauthorized or public road areas. He listed several common violations including riding in high-speed areas, unsafe riding practices, carrying passengers, and going against the flow of traffic, with fines reaching up to Dh300.
The police urged the public to use designated lanes, wear safety gear, and avoid night or bad weather riding. Residents can report any violations through the police app or by calling 901.
