President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and former Vice President Leni Robredo crossed paths during the inauguration of the Sorsogon Sports Arena on Thursday. The brief meeting, which included a handshake, occurred as Robredo, along with former Senator Bam Aquino, welcomed Marcos at the event’s holding area.
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who invited Robredo to represent the Bicol region, explained her presence at the event. Escudero, the former Sorsogon governor, is currently serving in the Senate.
Robredo’s spokesperson, lawyer Barry Gutierrez, clarified that the two were simply attending the same public event at the invitation of Escudero.
In his speech, Marcos stressed the importance of unity in achieving national progress. Despite differences in opinion, he emphasized that all Filipinos share the same goal of improving the country.
Robredo, who won the 2016 vice-presidential race against Marcos, will be running for mayor of Naga City in 2025.
