A former domestic worker from Davao del Norte has turned her dreams into reality after receiving a P500,000 grand prize from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for her winning business plan rooted in sustainability and community development.
Sweet Rose D. Montepio, 39, emerged as the grand winner of the 2025 LIKHang Kababaihan Business Plan Competition, a reintegration initiative by the DMW and its National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO). Once an overseas household worker, she returned home determined to build a livelihood not just for herself, but for her community.
Her eco-friendly business venture, focused on environmental responsibility and empowering locals, stood out among entries nationwide. The awarding ceremony was held on July 30 at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City, led by Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and other top officials.
Montepio’s project was recognized for its innovation, sustainability, and impact—an example of how returning OFWs can transform their hard-earned sacrifices into purpose-driven enterprises.
Other winners included Maria Carmelita Agbalog from Northern Mindanao, who took second place and received P300,000, and Rowena Cerodo from SOCCSKSARGEN, who won third place with P200,000.
