A former overseas Filipino worker once housed at Bahay Kalinga Shelter in Riyadh has come full circle—from being a distressed worker awaiting repatriation to becoming a proud business owner in the Philippines.
Alexandra was among those personally met by First Lady Liza Marcos and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne “PY” Caunan during the Serbisyo Caravan in Riyadh. During that visit, the First Lady brought long-awaited news to distressed OFWs temporarily staying in the shelter.
“Makakauwi na po kayo ng Pilipinas,” First Lady Liza Marcos told them.
The following day, Alexandra and 43 other Filipinos—comprising 36 distressed OFWs, four minors, and four infants—were flown home aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR655 on July 20.
Months later, Alexandra returned to OWWA—not to seek help, but to express gratitude. This time, she came as an entrepreneur. With the financial assistance she received upon her return, she was able to establish a small computer shop in Muntinlupa City. The business now provides her with a stable livelihood and also serves students who rely on internet access for their studies.
