A Jetstar flight headed to Melbourne was forced to turn back to Bali after a female passenger allegedly attempted to open the emergency door while flying over the Indian Ocean.
Flight JQ-34, which took off from Denpasar’s Ngurah Rai International Airport on March 31 with more than 200 people onboard, had been in the air for about two hours when the alarming incident happened.
Australian media personality Jacqueline Felgate shared a video describing the ordeal as an “absolute nightmare,” claiming the woman tried to exit the aircraft mid-flight because she wanted to get off.
Another passenger, Australian Survivor star Brooke Jowett, recounted in her Instagram stories that chaos erupted when flight attendants rushed toward the scene and urgently asked passengers to fasten their seatbelts. She said the woman was allegedly upset after being denied a seat with a reclining chair and wanted to move rows, which led to a confrontation with the crew.
According to Jowett, an off-duty police officer sitting nearby intervened and physically pulled the woman away from the emergency exit.
Jetstar later confirmed the passenger’s removal by Indonesian authorities, describing her behavior as abusive and disruptive. The airline assured that safety remained their top priority and commended the crew and passengers for their response.
All travelers were eventually rebooked on a separate flight to continue their journey to Australia.
This incident follows a similar case earlier in March when a man on a flight from Madrid tried to open an emergency exit mid-air, injuring a flight attendant who intervened.
