Five Filipinos arrested in Riyadh over theft, drug possession charges

Riyadh Region Police have taken into custody five Filipino nationals accused of stealing from homes and carrying illegal drugs, Saudi Arabia’s Public Security announced on August 23.

Authorities said the suspects were caught with personal belongings believed to have been stolen, along with methamphetamine, locally known as shabu. Their identities were not disclosed.

“They were detained, legal procedures were taken against them, and they were referred to the Public Prosecution,” the Public Security statement read. The update was originally posted in Arabic on X (formerly Twitter) and accompanied by a short video and photo.

Images released by police showed the suspects facing away from the camera, with several confiscated items—including wallets, bags, and accessories—displayed on a table.

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila have yet to issue any statement regarding the arrests.
