Five people lost their lives in a tragic fire that broke out in a high-rise residential building in the Al Nahda area of Sharjah on Thursday night. The victims died from smoke inhalation, Sharjah authorities confirmed in a Khaleej Times report.
In addition to the fatalities, 17 people sustained moderate injuries, with 27 more suffering minor injuries. Emergency medical care was provided to the injured.
Authorities have arranged shelter for 156 displaced residents, including 18 children. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after receiving a call at 10:50 pm and safely evacuating the building. The residential tower consists of 39 floors and 750 apartments.
The Sharjah authority extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the fire.
