First robotic-assisted knee replacement in Saudi offers new hope for arthritis patients

Surgeons at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital in the Madinah region have successfully performed a pioneering knee replacement surgery using a robotic system, marking a first in the area.

The procedure was carried out on a patient in her seventies who suffered from severe osteoarthritis and mobility issues due to misalignment and deterioration of her left knee joint.

Utilizing advanced orthopedic surgical techniques and artificial intelligence, the medical team employed the robotic system to ensure precise alignment and placement of the new joint. The surgery, which lasted two hours, ended with excellent outcomes, closely replicating the natural mechanics of the patient’s knee and significantly improving her quality of life.
