The Board of Directors of the Filipino Social Club (FilSoc) were honored to represent the Filipino community at the “Iftar Dubai”, a special gathering organized by the Community Development Authority (CDA) last Sunday, March 16, 2025, held at the iconic Al Wasl Dome, Expo 2020.
Attended by over 1,000 individuals representing CDA-licensed social clubs, diverse faiths, communities, and private entities, the event stood as a powerful expression of the UAE’s commitment to the spirit of inclusion. Held in line with the ‘Year of the Community’ initiative, the gathering aimed to strengthen social bonds and promote solidarity among all segments of society.
The event featured a program that included a heartfelt message from Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, the Director General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai, who highlighted that the gathering represents the spirit of tolerance during the holy month of Ramadan. She also mentioned the importance of unity, mutual respect, and community building in Dubai’s thriving multicultural landscape.
FilSoc President Ericson Reyes was among the selected individuals invited to share personal reflections during the program. In his speech, President Reyes spoke about how during the pandemic, Dubai’s inclusive environment has empowered Filipino organizations like FilSoc to grow, contribute, and engage meaningfully with the wider community.
“Whether Filipino or from any other nationality, we were treated like family—like Emiratis. Dubai made sure that every one of us had access to vaccines, food, and the support we needed. We fought together, healed together, and rose together. It was during this time that I truly understood the power of community, compassion, and resilience. And that’s when I realized—Dubai is home.” President Reyes emphasized in his speech.
Also present in the memorable event were His Excellency Ambassador Alfonso A. Ver, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, and Hon. Consul General Marford M. Angeles, Consul General of the Philippine Consulate in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
The legacy of Filipinos in Dubai is one marked by dedication, resilience, and a strong sense of community. Over the years, Filipinos have become a vital part of the UAE’s cultural and professional fabric—contributing across sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, the arts, and education. Through organizations like FilSoc, this legacy continues to thrive, not only preserving Filipino culture but also building bridges across communities in support of Dubai’s vision for harmony and shared prosperity.
FilSoc extends its gratitude to the Community Development Authority for the invitation and remains committed to promote inclusivity and cultural exchange in every initiative.
