Several Filipinos recently showcased their endurance and passion as they participated in the prestigious Berlin 42km Marathon, one of the world’s most renowned long-distance races. Among the Filipino runners were Logene Anib, Mary France Rubios, Joni Sugui, Precious Soriano, Kris Olarte, Orlando Agustin, Joan Louis Ilagan, and Fred Mendoza who joined tens of thousands of athletes in the annual event held in Berlin, Germany.
Anib, who made history as the fastest Filipina in the UAE, finished the marathon with an impressive time of 3 hours and 26 minutes. Anib’s remarkable performance demonstrates her exceptional running skills on the world stage, proving once again the strength of Filipino athletes in international competitions.
Close behind, Sugui crossed the finish line in 3 hours and 52 minutes, while Rubios completed the race in 3 hours and 54 minutes. Both runners showed outstanding endurance and dedication throughout the race, earning well-deserved recognition for their achievements.
Meanwhile, Soriano, crossed the finish line with a time of 4:05:59; and Olarte at 4:01:55 seconds. Augustin finished at 3:10, while Ilagan and Mendoza were at 3:53 and 4:00, respectively.
The Berlin Marathon, part of the prestigious World Marathon Majors, has been a hallmark event in long-distance running since 1974. Known for its flat and fast course, it regularly attracts elite athletes and marathon enthusiasts from around the globe. This course has become synonymous with world record attempts, most notably with Eliud Kipchoge setting a record time of 2:01:09 in 2022.
