Filipinos have emerged as the top global purchasers of ticket bundles for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” in Singapore, according to data from the travel and experience app Klook. Filipino fans accounted for 10% to 15% of the total ticket bundles sold, outpacing sales from other ASEAN countries which remained in the single digits per market. Michelle Ho, Klook’s general manager for the Philippines and Thailand, highlighted the significant contribution of the Philippines, noting Taylor Swift’s strong fanbase in the country.
According to a Rappler report, Klook experienced a remarkable surge in traffic, with over 10 million users joining their queue in just one second, a feat that tested the platform’s infrastructure. Despite the massive influx, Klook’s app did not crash, allowing fans to successfully purchase tickets. This resilience in handling high traffic volumes underscores Klook’s successful venture into the entertainment scene.
The concert tickets, bundled with accommodations in a 4-star hotel, were sold despite their high price, reflecting the unwavering enthusiasm of fans willing to travel for unique experiences. This trend is part of a broader pattern of increased spending on travel among Filipinos, as observed in Klook’s 2024 Travel Pulse study. The study reveals a significant growth in both local and international travel, with a notable preference for destinations like Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, and within the Philippines, Tagaytay, Baguio, Batangas, Boracay, and Palawan.
The findings indicate a robust recovery in tourism in 2023, with Klook’s bookings tripling and gross sales figures quadrupling from the previous year. Furthermore, the study points to a vibrant trend of “revenge travel,” with a majority of Filipinos expressing plans to continue their travel adventures both domestically and internationally in 2024.
