Filipinos in Dubai urged to donate blood on April 11 in Consulate’s ‘You’re My Type’ drive

In a powerful call for unity and compassion, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, together with the Dubai Health Authority, is inviting Filipinos to join the upcoming blood donation drive titled “You’re My Type: Join the Blood Drive, Save More Lives.” The event will be held on April 11, 2025 (Friday), from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rizal Hall, Philippine Consulate General.

The initiative forms part of the Consulate’s Labindalawa campaign, a year-round program designed to highlight Filipino values through monthly community-driven actions. This month’s theme focuses on voluntary blood donation—framed as a modern expression of the ancient sanduguan or blood compact.

“Our ancestors once used blood to seal pacts and affirm their shared destiny. Today, we extend that legacy by giving blood to those whose survival depends on it,” said Consul General Marford M. Angeles. “True freedom is about self-determination and the power to act for the greater good. A single donation can mean the difference between life and loss, and that is a freedom worth embracing.”

Open to donors aged 18 to 65 who weigh at least 50 kg and are in good health, the drive offers a simple but meaningful way to support patients in urgent need of blood—particularly those undergoing surgery, accident victims, or individuals with conditions like thalassemia.

Regular blood donation, according to health experts, not only benefits recipients but also improves donors’ circulation, lowers iron levels, and boosts heart health. As a sign-up poster encourages: “Join the Blood Drive, Save More Lives.”
