The DNA of one of the two Filipinos arrested in Japan for allegedly abandoning the bodies of a dead couple in Tokyo has been matched with the DNA found in a murder weapon, according to State of the Nation reports on Tuesday.
Citing information from Tokyo Police, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reportedly stated that the DNA found in the murder weapon corresponds to the Filipino woman.
Investigators are anticipated to finalize charges against the Filipinos on March 23 or 24.
The DFA assured that the Philippine government is prepared to offer legal assistance to the two individuals, who were rearrested on Saturday.
In CCTV footage, the pair were observed exiting the residence where the couple, Norihiro and Kimi Takahashi, were discovered deceased on January 16, 2024.
Previously, the DFA mentioned that both individuals were under investigation for leaving the body of the Japanese couple and were not considered suspects.
