Filipinos are happier than before, but PH slides in global happiness list

The Philippines saw a significant rise in its happiness score, jumping from 4.825 in 2012 to 6.107 in 2025, according to the latest World Happiness Report (WHR). Despite this improvement, the country ranked 57th out of 147 nations, slipping from last year’s position but still marking a huge leap from its 103rd place in 2012.

The rankings are based on three-year average life evaluations and reflect a country’s general well-being. The Philippines’ current score aligns with nations such as Japan (6.147) and Thailand (6.222) in East and Southeast Asia, showing a positive trajectory in public sentiment.

Globally, Finland (7.736) retained its position as the world’s happiest country, followed by Denmark (7.521) and Iceland (7.515). Meanwhile, Afghanistan (1.364) ranked as the least happy nation.

The latest figures indicate that while Filipinos are generally feeling better about their quality of life, there is still room for growth in comparison to other highly ranked countries.
