Thousands of Filipinos working in Hong Kong will see an increase in their salaries following the recent announcement of a minimum monthly wage increase for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs). The new wage policy, effective from September 30, 2023, boosts the minimum monthly wage from HK$4,730 (approximately P36,917.65) to HK$4,870 (around P38,010.35).
In addition to the salary hike, the food allowance for FDHs, including Filipinos, has also been raised to HK$1,236 (P9,649.98) from the previous HK$1,196 (P9,334.78). This change in wage and allowance is part of a wage order announced on Wednesday by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
As of the latest count in August 2023, there are 196,364 Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong. This number includes 40,000 newly employed or those who have renewed their contracts.
