Filipino wanted for multiple child abuse charges deported from UAE

A 56-year-old Filipino man wanted for several child abuse and rape charges has been deported from the United Arab Emirates and is now in police custody in the Philippines.

Identified as Arnold Abril, the suspect arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Monday afternoon and was immediately arrested, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). He had been the subject of an Interpol red notice and carried a ₱160,000 bounty, based on a 2023 memorandum from the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Abril faces three counts of rape, two counts of lascivious conduct, and six counts of acts of lasciviousness under Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. These charges were filed before the Regional Trial Court Branch 5 in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

The NCRPO said his deportation was made possible through coordination between the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC) and UAE’s National Central Bureau. Authorities did not specify when Abril was apprehended in the UAE or when the red notice was issued.

He is currently held by the Quezon City Police District’s intelligence division for further legal proceedings.
